Water Leaks in a home are a big cause for concern, especially if they’re invisible or go undetected for a long period of time. Often, you won’t notice you have a water leak behind your wall or under your floor until it has already caused major water damage to your home.
A slab leak is the term plumbers use to refer to a water leak under the floor. These leaks are usually located under a slab of concrete such as a home’s foundation, a sidewalk or a patio. Slab leaks are hard to detect and hard to reach so if you suspect one, you should call a plumber.
At Moore’s Plumbing - Mesquite, we’re experts in locating and fixing water leaks. We’re reliable and fast and would love to help. If left undetected, you could be at risk for flooding, mold, mildew or damage to your plumbing system. In addition, any undetected water leak in your home can be a cause for an increase in usage and cost on your water bill.
Generally, slab leaks can happen when the ground shifts underneath a home or building. Another cause of a slab leak is when your water line has a reaction with the concrete surrounding it, causing the pipe to become weak and corroded.
Signs of A Slab Leak
- Your floor might feel hot to the touch in one spot
- Increase in your water bill without an increase in your own water usage
- Cracks in the walls
- Sound of water running
- Moisture or mildew on your floor or carpet
Fixing a Slab Leak
Slab leaks can be hard to detect, locate and repair. The location and severity of the slab leak could help determine the appropriate method of repair.
A good temporary solution is to reroute the water pipes. This method will save you from having to dig into the slab; however, it does not provide a permanent fix. For a more long-lasting solution, a plumber may recommend to fix the root of the problem. This would involve digging into the slab or making several small holes in the slab that allow access to the pipes.
If you suspect you have a leak under your business or homes foundation or a concrete slab, we always recommend you call a professional. We can accurately assess the situation and determine the appropriate fix. The sooner you take care of your water leak, the easier it is to avoid further expensive water damage.
