Toilet Leaks

Unfortunately, the sign of a toilet leak usually only gets noticed once the leak has gotten bad. If you’re noticing signs of a toilet leak, it’s important you fix your toilet right away before the issue gets worse.  We recommend you call a professional plumber such as Moore’s Plumbing Mesquite. We can quickly assess the situation, fix the problem and sanitarily clean the area.   Signs of a Toilet Leak
  • The flooring around the bottom of your toilet is damp
  • Water stains or signs of dampness on the ceiling in the room under your toilet
  • Flooring around the toilet is starting to come up
  • Continuous sound of water running from your toilet
If you leave your toilet leak too long, you might end up with mold, rotted floor boards and structural damage which is time-consuming and costly to fix.

Common Causes of a Toilet Leak

Worn or Damaged Bolts and Washers If the bolts or washers that connect the toilet tank to the bowl become damaged or worn, you may end up with a toilet leak. Sometimes this issue can be fixed by re-tightening the bolts. But, generally the washers and bolts will need to be replaced. A plumber can do this for you.   Cracked Toilet Bowl or Tank This is a common cause of toilet leaks. Generally, when this occurs, you will need to replace the part or the entire toilet.   A Broken Gasket or Flange If your toilet moves when someone sits down, this is a sign that the gasket or flange needs to be replaced. A plumber can do this for you.   Leak on Supply Tube or Shut-off Valve Occasionally a leak can occur at the site of the shut off-valve where you turn off water to the toilet. If you suspect this is the cause, it’s important to call a plumber to fix.   Aging Plumbing and Corrosion With use and age, corrosion can occur. If age and general wear and tear is the suspected cause of the leak, consult with a plumber. They can properly assess the situation and damage and make sure the right repairs are done.
